What Is The GyroStim?
The GyroStim is a computer-controlled, multi-axis rotating chair. It offers innovative technology that improves the brain’s ability to perceive, process, and react to the world around it. Its technology and methodology create an advanced training system for rehabilitation, therapy, and sports performance enhancement strategies.
Located throughout the interior of the capsule are several laser-detecting targets. This is where the challenge comes into play. The patient uses a laser to point at the targets. Each time the target is hit, the data is collected and tracked.
Who Is The GyroStim For?
The GyroStim is intended for all ages and for all ability levels. It benefits all participants by challenging and improving situational and spatial awareness, reflexes, balance, coordination, and reaction time. The GyroStim is at the forefront of enhanced strategies at clinics, universities, elite sports centers, and more. It is intended to be used as a rehabilitation tool, for research, and to improve athletic performance.
As for rehabilitation, the GyroStim is used to treat conditions such as:
Concussions
Severe brain injuries
Cerebral palsy
Autism
Developmental disabilities
PTSD
Parkinson’s disease
Multiple sclerosis
Stroke
Motion Sickness
Likewise, athletes have turned to the GyroStim as a way of increasing athletic performance. Trainers use the treatment as an interactive “brain-base” training environment to challenge and improve mental acuity, decisiveness, and reaction time. As a result, sports performance is improved upon. Similarly, the treatment is designed to drive the recovery of athletes who have suffered from injuries.
Participate In Treatment Strategies
The treatment is 30 minutes in length and consists of multiple runs. Each run lasts 30 to 60 seconds. The intensity of the test runs are determined by the individual’s qualitative (headache, nausea, or dizziness) and quantitative (the number of targets hit per minute) response. The intention is to start with slow, predictable motions which allow for the patient to become acquainted with the GyroStim’s sensations. As patients progress, new challenges can be introduced to keep the treatment novel.
Next, the patient uses a handheld laser pointer to hit as many targets as possible. This data is collected to track the qualitative responses and the quantitative responses. The assessment is used by the GyroStim operator to share how the subject is responding to the current training intensity, and, how to best proceed on the next run.
