Hypoxia and Anoxia refer to low levels of oxygen or a complete absence of oxygen to the brain or other major organs and muscles, which can result in permanent disability or death. At Plasticity Brain Centers of Orlando, the team of board-certified doctors, neurology specialists, and the hand-selected staff of patient care coordinators and therapists are experienced in treating all types of brain injuries including those resulting from the leading causes of hypoxia and anoxia.
While both of these conditions can be caused by any number of different environmental or medical conditions (heart attacks, severe asthma, anemia, carbon monoxide/ carbon dioxide poisoning, choking, pre and postnatal trauma), among children 14 and under, it is most often attributed to water-related injuries.

“Drowning is the fifth leading cause of unintentional injury for people of all ages,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But among children 1-4 years of age, drowning accounts for more deaths than any other cause except birth defects.

On average, about 10 people drown in the U.S. every day, and in Florida, those numbers are among the highest in the country, and the majority of these victims are young children and infants.

Drowning or a near drowning experience can deprive the brain of oxygen. When deprived of oxygen for more than a few minutes, brain cells begin to shut down, and sometimes even die. About 50% of drowning victims require hospitalization or transfer for further care, according to leading studies. And those who survive are often left with significant brain damage or long-term disabilities including memory loss and permanent loss of basic functions.

The Florida Department of Children and Families reports that Florida loses more children under the age of 5 to drowning than any other state in the nation. Children under 3 years old accounted for 70% of the deaths by drowning in 2016.

On August 12, from 10:30 - 1:30 Plasticity Brain Centers will hold a FREE, insightful workshop that will touch on a variety of brain injury treatments perfected at the Center, including solutions related to neurological injuries and degenerative conditions. This workshop will help attendees best understand how utilization of a comprehensive set of exams and proprietary diagnostic technology can help pinpoint the exact brain functions that need treatment. It will also provide a more clear understanding of how neuroplasticity can help improve quality of life and achieve individual health goals.

By understanding the neurological mechanisms of neuroplasticity, and brain physiology, doctors at Plasticity Brain Centers hope this workshop will best inform and educate their audience on the Center’s unique methodology and rate of success. Participating staff is also hoping to utilize this opportunity to raise awareness about the wide range of issues their patients come with, including the treatment of patients suffering anoxic and hypoxic brain injuries.

Highlights of the day will include:

• A mini-lecture by international lecturer, and neurology expert, Dr. Antonucci
• A public service announcement about pool safety
• A hands-on workshop with Dr. Antonucci, on how to assess if functional neurology can help a diffuse anoxic brain injuries patient.
• Hors d'oeuvres and Q&A
• A tour of Plasticity Brain Centers
• An introduction to their cutting-edge technology

The workshop will be held at Plasticity Brain Centers, 2000 North Alafaya Trail #600, Orlando, Florida.

Plasticity Brain Centers offers non-invasive neuro rehabilitation based on a single scientific principle: the brain is capable of learning and changing throughout a patient’s entire life. This is made possible through engagement with targeted neuro-receptors in a concept known as “neuroplasticity,” an approach widely accepted by the scientific community, only available in leading-edge treatment centers.
